Chelsea Nodine‘s insightful BrightonSEO presentation inspired this week’s SEO consulting tip.

When I had direct reports, I went all out teaching them every finite detail of SEO I knew. I used to take pride in saying, “I’ll teach you everything that took me ten years to learn in just two years!”

But I often became frustrated and jaded when individuals didn’t take advantage of it. Their passion for SEO didn’t align with mine…

And that’s OK!

This week’s tip is to rightsize your investment in coaching and leveling up your direct reports, colleagues, and even clients and bosses.

Support those who show the drive and commitment, but don’t lose sleep over those who aren’t as invested. Your energy is finite—use it wisely.

After 15 years in the SEO industry, I’ve learned (many times over) that you can’t make someone care just because you do.
