Raise your 🖐 if you’ve ever had to rely on a difficult stakeholder to move your campaign or strategy forward. I know I sure have.

Instead of letting frustration take over, I turned it into a challenge. Breaking down walls and building relationships with tricky stakeholders can be challenging but incredibly rewarding. Here’s how I approach it:

💡 Find Common Ground Early
Start by understanding their goals, pain points, and priorities. Show them how your SEO efforts align with what they care about—whether it’s increasing revenue, driving visibility, or improving key performance metrics. Sometimes, common ground doesn’t even have to be work-related—sports, shows, travel, or family can all be great icebreakers.

💡 Show Consistent Value
Difficult stakeholders often need to see results before they fully buy in. Focus on quick wins relevant to their objectives. Then, be transparent about progress and set clear expectations.

💡 Share Victories
More often than not, difficult stakeholders are the ones who don’t regularly get credit for their (or their team’s) work. Tie “wins” to their contributions. Applaud them publicly and share these wins with leadership to highlight how their buy-in has driven success.

💡 Stay Patient, Stay the Course
It’s easy to get frustrated when you’re met with a cold shoulder or slow action. Keep going. Double down on communication and consistency. Over time, the persistence will pay off.
