Issue # 5
October 4th, 2016

Hey lunch buddies.  These last few weeks have been crazy busy on both the work and personal front. I’m looking forward to it slowing down a bit (ha!) and catching up on some family time and much needed Sunday football!

I’m also excited to say that we’ve hit the 5th issue of the #SEOForLunch newsletter.  I’ve received some great feedback and look to continue to make this weekly newsletter even more valuable for the future. If you know someone who doesn’t have the time to stay up to-date with SEO best practices forward them this email.

What You Must Know

Article: Google Review Link Generator Tool
What’s important?
My buddy Darren Shaw from WhiteSpark has released a tool to make leaving a review for your local listing even easier.
Nick’s take:
Getting reviews for local companies is hard!  I’ve been a big fan of WhiteSpark’s review handout generator for quite a while and I’m looking forward to leveraging this new tool too.  If you don’t have a process for getting more reviews to your local business listing, then definitely look into these tools.  They are 100% free.

SEO Tips & Advice
Stoney G deGeyter wrote a post on optimizing your product pages for an ecommerce site. Optimizing ecommerce sites, let alone with hundreds of thousands of product pages isn’t easy.  It’s absolutely critical you get your sites architecture organized.  I’ve seen sites grow their traffic and revenue significantly by exclusively optimizing their architecture, internal links and controlling crawl efficiencies.  These are all things you can control and many of these Stoney touches on.

The one note I will add is that Stoney seems to be a big fan of the canonical tag.  In many instances the canonical tag is required but when possible, build your site to avoid duplicate content in the first place. Canonical tags are a great Band-Aid fix but it certainly doesn’t help optimize your sites crawl efficiency. Don’t make Google put more effort into crawling your site.  Hand it to them on a silver platter by implementing an exceptionally well laid out site architecture.
