September 5th, 2017

Hey, lunch buddies.  Hope you enjoyed your long Labor Day weekend.  Football starts this week which in the LeRoy household marks the official end of Summer.  The Vikings might not play until Monday but it sure will be good to have meaningful football on the big screen again.

On to this weeks newsletter…

What You Must Know

Article: Google now displaying AMP Featured Snippets within Search Results.

What’s important?
Many AMP technology adopters are seeing an uptick in mobile organic traffic due to featured snippets now being derived from AMP specific URLs.

Nick’s take:
This is another example of Google continuing to reward those who prioritize site speed.  I have a few clients who have a large amount of featured snippets but do not utilize the AMP technology.  It will be interesting to see if they lost any featured snippets to competitors who leverage AMP.

SEO Tips & Advice

I love optimizing extremely large e-commerce sites.  These sites typically respond best to implementing technical SEO best practices.  One of the biggest issues that most e-commerce sites have but are rarely optimized is their faceted navigation.

The builtvisible team wrote a good article on the topic of optimizing faceted navigation.  If you own, operate or optimize sites leveraging faceted navigation then you should read this article.   If you can optimize the faceted navigation correctly I can almost guarantee you that you’ll see an increase in your organic search traffic.
