Issue #31
April 25th, 2017

Hey, lunch buddies.  Hope you had a great weekend and an even better start to the work week.  It’s been super crazy around the Ovative office and part of it is due to a good buddy of mine Jeff wrapping up his last week.  Thanks again for all your hard work — best of luck at the new gig!

Some of you that follow me on Twitter or LinkedIn might have noticed I shared out a new SEO article that I wrote. If you’re interested in learning more about how effective communication plays a role in an SEO career then this piece is perfect for you!

on to the rest of the goods…

What You Must Know

Article: Error Submitting URL to Google Search Console?

What’s important?
Many reports are surfacing of an error message popping up when you submit an URL to be crawled by Google from Google Search Console.  There looks to be a “hack” for getting a page indexed by submitting through the Google Mobile Friendly Testing tool.

Nick’s take:
I was fortunate enough to not have experienced the issue but I had seen many people on Twitter complain about it. If your still having issues, consider using the workaround until Google fixes this bug.

SEO Tips & Advice

I love working on extremely large websites, e-commerce sites are especially fun due to the impact good technical SEO can really provide.

Serge Stefoglo wrote a post on Moz regarding faceted navigation – which is arguably the #1 issue on all large enterprise sites.   Serge walks through all the options for addressing faceted navigation but also highlights the best solution in which I agree 100%.

If you have a large website and you haven’t yet addressed your unruly, crawl budget wasting faceted navigation then this article is perfect for you!
