How YOU can get valuable links from Search Engine Land & SEOmoz

Posted on November 2nd, 2011. Written by Nick LeRoy.

Not everyone has a search related blog in which these links would truly add value too but I wanted to take an opportunity to write a post that helps out my fellow SEO practitioners (you can send me x-mas presents next month :) ).   Below are TWO different opportunities for acquiring highly valued links from websites that all SEOs are fans of – Search Engine Land & SEOmoz.

Acquiring Links From SearchEngineLand.com

If you’re in the SEO niche you should be more than familiar with Search Engine Land.  One of the leading sources for up to date SEO news and rumors.  Outside of becoming a contributing author did you know you could get a link from them?  It all starts out with Search Engine Lands sister site Sphinn.com.  Each week Sphinn as a “Discussion of the week”.  These discussions range from opinions on SEO techniques, SEO hourly rates, and even sharing opinions about what frustrates SEOs most about clients.  Did you know that by simply participating in a conversation you could potentially get a link from Search Engine Land?

Matt McGee writes a weekly column called “Hot at Sphinn”.   In this column Matt covers the latest search related  articles that have been featured on Sphinn’s homepage.  In addition he goes over the previous weeks discussion topic.  At that point he quotes a Sphinn member which contributes valuable feedback to the discussion.  Most of the time a attribution link is included!  My suggestion is that if you want an ‘easy’ link from Search Engine Land then you become an active discussion member on their sister website Sphinn.com

*WARNING* As an editor of Sphinn.com I will reassure you that if you register an account and attempt to spam our weekly discussion that I will see that not only your comments get deleted but your account as well.  While we highly encourage discussions – replies solely added in order to secure a link will be deleted.  So please don’t SPAM us.

Acquiring ANCHOR TEXT Links From SEOmoz.org

It shouldn’t surprise anyone that you can easily get a followed link from SEOmoz.org.  Simply participate in their community via blog comments and after you receive 200 Mozpoints your profile website link becomes “do-follow”.

So that’s the EASY link.  I promised you a fully optimized anchor text link though.  This one requires a lot more work.  Sorry – not every link you get will be “easy”.

SEOmoz allows its members to contribute posts to their community blog entitled YOUmoz.  The SEOmoz team does a pretty good job weeding out the junk submissions and the blatantly spammy ones (including especially promotional anchor text links within your content).  So the first step to get your anchor text link is to write a QUALITY SEO article.  Remember that you could be featured in front of the SEO world so it’s really in your best interest to put your best effort forward.  You never know who might read your article which in the long run could offer you far more value then this one particular link.   Once you submit your YOUmoz article go into your SEOmoz profile.  This is where we’re going to make the anchor text link available!

While filling out your profile you will notice that SEOmoz gives you a blog bio field specifically for YOUmoz blog posts.   If you type in this field the code for an anchor text link then when your YOUmoz post goes live it will display as a do followed anchor text link!  See below for an example.

And the end result of you adding this code and your YOUmoz being published live… a heavily optimized anchor text link at the bottom of your post in your “about” section.

*NOTICE* I beg of you guys to not go about spamming SEOmoz with this technique.  I’m not dumb enough to think that I pulled a fast one on them and that they aren’t aware of this.   I like to believe this is more of a secret gift given to creative thinking SEOs who participate in adding quality content to their website.   Please don’t ruin this for the rest of us.

There you have it. Two incredibly valuable links that anyone can acquire if they put in enough effort.   All it takes is some creative thinking and quality work.  Two attributes of  not only a quality SEO practitioner but a successful website as well.

  2. Only 166 mozpoints to go for a nofollow link – and just 966 for an seomoz tshirt :S
Another decent link you can get is on sempo.org – as a paying member. You get 2 “visit my website” links.
