SEO laugh of the week – Friday's SEO Tip

.
Today while doing the normal SEO ’rounds’ I found a report of a webmaster using this meta tag. “<meta name=”pagerank™” content=”10″></meta>”. Now I don’t normally pick on people or call out faults as I have plenty of my own but this meta tag is hysterical. I don’t know if the original webmaster used it for comedic purposes or if they truly believed that this would instruct Google to change their page rank. Either way this weeks SEO tip is to not use this tag. Not only does Page Rank not have a direct correlation with your search rankings it’s not a value in which you can increase by implementing a one line code.
Remember that Page Rank score that you see in your tool bar is only updated roughly 3-4 times a year. And while this tool bar Page Rank may be updated infrequently that doesn’t mean that Google themselves don’t keep track of what they believe to be your sites value. Please don’t focus on your Page Rank – there are many instances where a lower PR site is ranking higher then a site with a higher PR. The rankings are what matter and we should be focusing on the traffic received by these rankings.
I hope everyone gets a chuckle from this “<meta name=”pagerank™” content=”10″></meta>” tag but don’t be fooled… It won’t work.
